If you ever notice any signs of heart attack in a close friend or a family member, the first thing to do is get them to sit down or lie down. Try your best to calm the person down and assure them that you are there.

Give the person an aspirin to chew till paramedics arrive. They need to chew and swallow the aspirin because that’s how it works faster.

If the person is unconscious, immediately perform a CPR but only if you are trained to do so. For those who do not know how to perform a CPR, you can help by performing chest compressions alone. You have to place both your hands on top of each other and place your hands in the middle of the chest. Push hard and fast. Chest compressions have proven to be more effective than mouth-to-mouth and should suffice in such situations till the paramedics arrive.

Sometimes coughing also helps because it gives some pressure on the chest area. It helps restore the normal rhythm of the heart.
